Rumors have been swirling around the gaming community about the possibility of a new PlayStation handheld device making its way into the market. Recent leaks and insider information suggest that Sony might be working on a successor to the much-loved PlayStation Vita, which was discontinued in 2019. With multiple sources hinting at the potential release of a new handheld gaming system, PlayStation fans are eagerly awaiting more information.

The rumors started gaining traction when tech insider Tom Henderson mentioned a “new piece of Sony hardware” in a recent streaming session on YouTube. Meanwhile, Reddit user u/remy2fly claimed that an Asus employee was aware of a secret Sony handheld project. While Henderson’s comment could have referred to any new hardware, such as a monitor or headset, the Reddit thread sparked further speculation about the possible arrival of a new PlayStation Vita or a similar handheld device.

One of the intriguing aspects of these rumors is the possibility that this new Sony handheld could be released before the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro. If true, this could mean that the portable gaming device might make its debut as early as this year. Another interesting piece of information comes from a 2017 prediction by financial services company Goldman Sachs, which accurately foresaw the release of the PlayStation 5 in 2020 and predicted a PlayStation 5 Portable in 2023.

Recent reports from Polish gaming site Insider Gaming suggest that Sony might be working on a device codenamed “Q Lite.” The device reportedly requires a PlayStation 5 to operate and does not provide native gameplay. Instead, it utilizes the Remote Play feature with the PlayStation 5, a function that Sony has been actively promoting in recent weeks.

The “Q Lite” is said to be a cloud gaming-based device that requires a constant internet connection, offering gameplay at 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second. According to Tom Henderson, early prototypes of the device resemble the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller with a large 8-inch LCD touchscreen display.

While the information currently available is based on rumors and leaks, the possibility of a new PlayStation handheld has undoubtedly captured the attention of gamers worldwide. As more concrete details emerge, PlayStation fans can only hope that Sony delivers a gaming device worthy of the excitement surrounding these rumors.
